judgement of valueという標題の３節の途中まで進みました。
前回の記事に書いたvalueと同じように、endも多義的です。デューイはそのことにも注意を促していました。その箇所を引用します。
It is an end of judgment in the objective, not in the possessive, sense of the preposition “of”; it is an end not in the sense of aim, but in the sense of a terminating limit.
それは前置詞ofの目的格でのend of judgment（判断を終わりにすること）であって、所有格でのend of judgment（判断の目的）ではない。つまり、それは目的という意味でのendではなく、終わりにする限界という意味でのendである。
日本語話者にとってはデューイがここで言っていることがわかりやすいです。
